Paris – Galerie Hayasaki: exposition de la galerie de Kyoto Hitamuki

Des artistes de la galerie de Kyoto Hitamuki ainsi que des étudiants du « space design college » ont été invités à présenter leurs œuvres dans la galerie Hayasaki à Paris, du 18 au 28 décembre 2008.
La galerie Hitamuki, spécialisée dans les objets utilitaires, a été fondée par l’école « space design college » de Tokyo afin de promouvoir les œuvres des artisans de l’art décoratif traditionnel venant de tout le Japon.
Les artistes exposent donc des œuvres uniques d’art contemporain qui respectent les techniques traditionnelles.

Dear person in charge of Fascinant Japon,
I spent 3 month in the summer and fall 2009 in Tokyo painting murals in the Abercrombie & Fitch store in Ginza.
At this occasion I discovered the elevated tracks of the JR Line from Tokyo Station to Shimbashi.
I painted 2 watercolor sketchbooks along these tracks.
I choose 17 of these watercolors to develop.
Back in New York, the place where I live and work, I painted 17 views in oil on kakemonos inspired by these 17 watercolors.
I then started to paint/sculpt these 17 views in 3 dimensions that I call « planches dessinées » in French and cutouts in English.
And photographed them.
12 of the 17 views have been completed in 3 dimensions so far.
The whole collection of watercolors, oil paintings, cutouts and photographs has been shown in my home-town in France, Saint-Avertin, from January 6 to February 13, 2011 at the Galerie « L’Annexe ».
I am now painting the murals of the Abercrombie & Fitch store in Paris, at the Rond-Point-des-Champs-Elysées (23, avenue des Champs-Elysées).
